Richter Joins Racker Rivals Big Red, Agency Announces Super Goal

Racker has announced the addition of NHL Hall of Fame Goaltender Mike Richter to its star-studded Racker Rivals Big Red line-up, paving the way for the agency to increase its Pledge-A-Player fundraising goal to $50,000.

Richter played his entire 14-season career with the New York Rangers organization, leading the team to a Stanley Cup victory in 1994. He will join fellow Hall of Famer Joe Nieuwendyk, as well as NHL celebrities Brian Gionta, Alex Tuch, Joakim Ryan, Brad Chartrand and Anthony Angello in Racker’s fourth fundraising hockey game, Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at Cornell University’s Lynah Rink.

Presented by Tompkins Trust Company, Racker Rivals Big Red is a family-friendly exhibition hockey game, which pairs NHL legends and rising stars, Cornell alumni and local celebrities to raise essential funding in support of Racker’s programs and services for individuals with disabilities and their families in Tompkins, Cortland and Tioga Counties.

To date, Racker’s Pledge-A-Player Campaign has netted more than $33,000 of its $35,000 goal, leading to the agency’s launch of a $50,000 Super Goal.  To realize its goal, Racker is asking community members to pledge their favorite player by visiting Racker.org.

Racker Rivals Big Red begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Cargill Friends and Family Open Skate, a rare opportunity for the public to skate on Cornell’s famed Lynah Rink ice. The puck drops for the game at 7 p.m., and members of the Ithaca Mites youth hockey program will play an intermission exhibition game at the half, sponsored by Linz Real Estate.

In celebration of Racker’s 70th Anniversary, tickets for Racker Rivals Big Red are just $7. Kids seven and under are free.  Tickets are available at the Cornell Big Red Ticket Office, online through cornellbigredtickets.com or at the door.

For more information, or to make an offline pledge, contact Racker’s Assistant Director of Community Relations and Development, Carrie Carmenatty, at carrie@rackercenters.org or (607) 272-5891 extension 285.
