In response to the growing number of children being diagnosed with autism, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations were amended in 2008. The amendment requires that: all persons applying for certification as a special education teacher through the individual transcript evaluation process or through SED's TEACH system OR certified administrators assigned to a special education position after September 2, 2009 complete course work or training in the area of students with autism. This requirement applies to those applicants who apply for a teaching certificate or license in the following areas: special education, students with disabilities, teaching students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, teaching students who are blind to visually impaired, teaching students with speech and language disabilities, and administrators or supervisors who work in special education positions.Dr. Karen Fried

~ Fee for the training is $95 and must be paid in advance.

~ Pre-registration is required. Registration deadline is Monday, May 31st, 2010. Limited space available.

~ This training is also open to those for whom this is not mandated. The same fee applies. This training is geared towards school district personnel.
