It was almost a year ago that Liz received a postcard in the mail offering a free hearing screening at Franziska Racker Centers’ Audiology Clinic. With the
encouragement of her husband Fred, Liz made the call to the Centers and set up an appointment with Dr. Monica Brace. As a result of that initial appointment, it was determined that Liz has moderate-severe hearing loss in both ears and in October of 2008 she was fitted with Oticon Vigo Power Hearing Aids. Reflecting back on that initial visit Liz says, “I’m glad I came (to the clinic) and really glad I paid attention to that card.” Now Liz wears hearing aids daily, though most people can’t even tell. She had a little trouble at first with putting them in and relied on Fred to assist her. Now though she says “they are no problem to put in and they work well. In fact they are so comfortable sometimes I forget to take them out at night!”
The hearing aid in her left ear is programmed for the telephone so upon lifting the receiver a magnet activates a program that enhances her listening experience on the phone. Her hearing aids have also made a difference in her work as a part-time nurse at Lakeside Nursing home giving her more confidence when communicating with the residents and co-workers.
As for her experience with Dr. Brace, “Monica is a sensitive and caring person,” says Liz. “She never seems to be in a hurry and takes her time. I would strongly suggest the clinic to others, everyone is so personable and kind and helpful.”
